Huron Capital’s Specialty Engineering Platform Hughes Associates Completes Third Add-on
DETROIT, Mich., September 16, 2013 – Huron Capital Partners LLC (Huron) announced today that its portfolio company, Hughes Associates, Inc. (Hughes), of Baltimore, Md., has acquired Kodiak Fire & Safety Consulting, Inc. (Kodiak). Kodiak is a strategic niche add-on that further strengthens Hughes’ capabilities in litigation support and fire investigation. Based in Fort Wayne, Ind., Kodiak is a fire investigation consulting firm that provides forensic analysis and litigation support for codes and standards established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other governing bodies.
Daniel Gottuk, Hughes’ director of litigation support, noted: “Kodiak is a highly respected and talented group of engineers and investigators, and we are looking forward to expanding our forensic services offering. Kodiak and Hughes have very complementary capabilities that will allow us to better serve our collective clients.”
Kodiak’s excellent reputation has been developed over the past 18 years by president and founder, Dan Churchward, who has been involved in complex fire investigations, safety inspections and training since 1972. He chaired the NFPA 921 committee for over 12 years until 2009, overseeing substantial changes in the Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations.
Huron originally invested in Hughes in May 2011 and was attracted to Hughes’ market-leading position in the fire protection engineering market and its ability to serve as a platform for growth.
“We continue to deliver on our strategic plan with this third tuck-in in just over two years. Hughes’ geographic reach will further enable Kodiak to respond to fire scene investigations all across the country. We are very excited to partner with their team,” said Peter Mogk, Huron senior partner.
