After identifying notable secular trends including, increasingly stringent regulatory requirements, the growing importance of “smart” buildings and systems, and demographic shifts tied to urbanization, we worked with Terry to author a “white paper” on the FLS industry.
Our vision was to become the acquiror and employer of choice as the largest independent fire and life safety services integrator in North America while building a scalable infrastructure and a preeminent management team.
After completing the white paper and developing our market entry strategy, we formed Sciens in early 2016 in partnership with Terry as Sciens’ Founder and CEO.
In September 2016 after a thorough search process, we acquired Florida-based WSA Systems to establish the platform and within a year, completed two more acquisitions. Over the next two years, Terry built a world class management team that included industry veterans Michael Dawid, CFO and Kurt Schoonover, COO. Together, they invested in corporate and regional operating capabilities, including a professionalized sales organization to expand lifetime service revenue, and critical technology and operational tools to drive efficiencies in the field.
Beginning in 2019, we accelerated our M&A strategy, successfully acquiring and integrating ten highly complementary businesses. Through these acquisitions, we built a platform to serve customers nationally and expanded our geographic reach to become a leading provider in our served markets.
Our efforts resulted in a greater than 35-fold increase in revenue and EBITDA, transforming Sciens from a business vision into a diversified, market-leading FLS platform poised to continue its impressive growth.
In 2021, we sold Sciens to funds managed by global investment firm Carlyle (NADAQ: CG).
